Ashtavaidyan Thaikkattu Mooss Vaidyaratnam Oushadhasala

Thaikkattu Mooss’ family has contributed significantly for the growth of Ayurveda, the science of holistic healing. The tradition of the family dates back to the legendary days of Lord Parasurama. The profound knowledge in all the 8 branches of Ayurveda – Kayachikitsa, Balachiktsa, Grihachikitsa, Urdhwavanga chikitsa, Salya Chikitsa, Visha Chikitsa, Rasayanam and Vajeekaranam – gave the masters the title ASHTAVAIDYAN.

The splendid tradition of Thaikkattu Mooss’family begins with Sri. Narayanan Mooss and Ittiravi Mooss of the 19th century. In 1924, Ashtavaidyan Narayanan Mooss was awarded the much coveted title of VAIDYARATNAM by Lord Reading., the then Viceroy of India. Vaidyaratnam Oushadhasala was founded in 1941 by Ashtavaidyan Sri. E.T. Neelakandhan Mooss, the son of Ashtavaidyan Sri. Narayanan Mooss. The Nation conferred upon him Padmasri in 1992 as a recognition of his contribution in the field of Ayurveda. Vaidyaratnam institutions have now forayed into new areas, scripting a new saga of success under the able leadership of Ashtavaidyan Sri. E.T. Narayanan Mooss, (Padmabhushan awardee)

The Chairman and Managing Director of Vaidyaratnam Group, Ashtavaidyan Sri. E. T. Narayanan Mooss has been honoured with prestigious awards for his invaluable contributions to the Nation, like

Unlike all other branches of medicine, Ayurveda observes a patient in entirety – on physical, mental and spiritual levels – while treating diseases. It is well established by the modern science beyond any doubt that one’s mind has a very strong influence on his body. With this knowledge rediscovered, Ayurveda is fast emerging as a holistic alternative to all other systems of medicine. With its enormous understanding on human mind, body and spirit, Ayurveda offers treatment for almost all known diseases.

There are eight branches (Ashtangas) in Ayurveda. They are Kaya Chikitsa (General Medicine), Bala Chikitsa (Pediatrics), Graha Chikitsa (Occult and Tantric Medicine), Oordhwanga Chikitsa (ENT), Salya Chikitsa (Surgery), Damshtra Chikitsa (Toxicology), Jara Chikitsa (Geriatrics) and Vrisha Chikitsa (Aphrodisiac Treatment). Our physicians belong to the rare tradition of the Ashtavaidyas – those equally proficient in all the eight branches of Ayurveda.

Our Mission

Yes, happiness is for those who possess a healthy mind and body. The mission of Vaidyaratnam Oushadhasala is to pave path for happiness by providing healthy mind and body for all those who seek it. Coming closer to Mother Nature from the degraded atmosphere is essential for rejuvenation. Vaidyaratnam Oushadhasala is all set to give the right ambience by uncompromisingly sticking to the core traditions – a trait that accelerates growth and supports us in the service of mankind – a trait that reflects our philanthropic philosophy “Let everyone in the world attain happiness”.

Ayurveda, a 5,000-year-old Indian health system that is believed to cure all internal and external ailments by a combination of its eight branches. Those who use it believe it to be a complete system of medicine, whether the area for treatment is internal and external.

Ayurveda treatment”The basic principle of Ayurveda is that there are three energies in our body, Vata, Pitta and Kapha, which are controlling all of our functions.

Vata is responsible for all movement in the body and is the most important of the three doshas. Pitta is responsible for all metabolisms in the body. Kapha provides the structures and the lubrication that the body needs. If they are balanced, our body will be perfectly healthy. When we see a patient, we see what energies have gone up or down with the main purpose of balancing these energies.

We are proud to say that our products are outstanding in the market today. .

Panchakarma:The main aim of treatment is to remove toxins from the body and healing from ourselves. Panchakarma, an ancient recognized therapeutic procedure, has great importance in Ayurveda. This therapy radiates the diseases and leaves no chance for relapse. This treatment has two functions: the first function is to lighten the body and the second function is to nourish the body. The lightening therapy is purificatory. It is pacifying and palliating the excess humours.

Panchakarma means five course action. They are: Vamana (emesis), Virechana (Purgation), Nasya or Shirovirechana ( sternutation), Niruha Bassti (Decoction enema), and Anuvasana Basti (oily enema). Susruta considers both basti as one course and adds Rakta Moksha (bloodletting using leeches) as the fifth course.

For easy elimination of humours, preliminary therapies are administered during each and every process. They are mainly (a) snehana or oleation and (b) fomentation or sweating. Oleation includes internal applications such as drinking medicated oil or medicated ghee etc., and external applications such as oil massage, oil bath, using oil on head etc.

Internal oleation is generally done before emesis and purgation. Sweating or fomentation includes touching with the heated solids, steam bath, massage with heated rice or leaf bundles (kizhi) . Oleation makes the body unctuous and improves the flow of humours by liquefying them. It also softens the channels of humours and hence it promotes the elimination of humours. Oleation produces unctuousness, softness and regulates the flow of fluids inside the body.

Idyllic, serene and sumptuous nature’s bounty, a million shades of green nourished by providence and the network of emerald canals that wind through the land. Drink elixir from the palm groves, the air comes alive with birdsong and fabulous birds take flight at the break of dawn. Discreetly set amidst palms, tropical plants and cropped grass: traditional cottages built in the vernacular style once popular in Kerala. Surrounded on three sides by a matrix of waterways, step lightly, sit back, luxuriate in the beauty that surrounds you, soak in the silence, you are a heartbeat away from paradise.

Turn off the highway to Alleppey, onto a narrower road that winds its way through sleepy hamlets, going past prawn and shrimp farms and submerged fields of paddy. You gradually begin to feel the overwhelming presence of water. At times in the course of the journey it seems that for an instant one has dropped below the waterline.

The gateway to Kondai Lip welcomes you across a narrow canal fringed by palms. Greeted by the resort’s boatman, guests are then transported across in a country boat. The boatman uses a long pole, pushing down into the riverbed to propel the boat forward. Step ashore, stone lined pathways branch out and lead into the resort. A canal to the left has been dyked to form a large pond that stretches across on end of the property. Brick colored cottages built of laterite and wood with wooden gables, tiled roofs and verandahs are set amidst tall palm and coconut trees, tropical plants and cropped grass. The cottages are all over a hundred years old and were once traditional homes that have been translocated. Designed in Kerala’s vernacular style of architecture, with interiors in wood, elegantly furnished and equipped with all modern amenities, the cottages look out at canals on two sides and are set around a dining area that is open to the surrounding landscape.

A profound silence reigns, this is solitude in its purest form and within its embrace a million sounds that you wouldn’t normally hear. Step lightly, sit back, luxuriate in the beauty that surrounds you, soak in the silence, you are a heartbeat away from paradise.

The backwaters of Kerala are a chain of brackish inland lagoons and lakes situated parallel to the Arabian Sea and comprising of five large lakes linked by canals fed by 38 rivers and extending virtually half the length of Kerala. The backwaters were formed by the action of waves and shore currents creating low barrier islands across the mouths of the rivers flowing down from the Western Ghats mountain range.

Sometimes compared to the American Bayou, it is a labyrinth of shimmering waterways composed of lakes, canals, rivers and rivulets. This is a unique ecosystem composed of freshwater from the rivers upstream that mingles with seawater flowing inland at high tide. Fringed by palm trees, pandanus shrubs, various leafy plants and bushes along the canals, a fascinating range of aquatic life including crabs, frogs, mudskippers and water birds such as terns, kingfishers, darters, cormorants besides otters and turtles live here.

Set amidst palms and lush tropical vegetation, traditional air conditioned cottages with canal facing sit outs, built with laterite and wood, elegantly furnished and equipped with all modern amenities.

Ayurveda is an ancient system of holistic health care that is native to the Indian sub continent and used by millions. The word Ayurveda roughly translates as science of life with the word ‘Ayu’ meaning life and ‘Veda’ meaning knowledge or science. According to its philosophy our existence is an interaction of five elements Space, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. Vata, Pitta and Kapha are combinations and permutations of these five elements that manifest as patterns present in all creation and that it is the imbalance of any of any one of these elements that is the cause of all human ailments.

Ayurveda is essentially a way of life concerned with promoting healthy living along with therapeutic measures that relate to physical, mental and spiritual harmony and the promotion of the body’s own capacity for maintenance and balance. Ayurveda treats not just the ailment but the whole person emphasizing prevention of disease to avoid the need for cure and ensures physical and mental health without side effects. Treatments are non-invasive and non-toxic and can be used safely as an alternative therapy or alongside conventional therapies.

Qualified physicians at the Ayurvedic treatment centre in the resort provide a range of cures and treatments including sweat treatments, oil massages, yoga and meditation.

oottusala Multi Cusine Restaurant – Kondai Lip :: Backwater Heritage Resort

Oottusala – multi cuisine restaurant, designed with features of Kerala’s vernacular architectural style and open to the surrounding landscape on three sides. Serene setting for a meal and serves a menu of traditional Kerala cuisine with seafood being the chef’s speciality. A limited range dishes from other parts of India are served. Candle light dinners set beside the canal can be arranged for honeymooning couples and other guests on request.

Thaikkatt Mooss E.T.M Oushadhasala (INDIA) LTD

Ayurveda is as old as human civilization, has grown with time, ever new, one with and as gentle as Mother Nature. Herbal Gardens

The origin of herbal medicine pre-dates all existing records. India has a rich tradition in herbal medicine. The Vedic literature stands testimony for the vast knowledge on our traditional systems of medicine. India is the proud possessor of a medical heritage that has the longest unbroken history in human civilization. About 7500 species of plants are used for medicine in our country. Ayurveda, the most prevalent system in the country uses about 700 species of plants. These plants can provide biologically active molecules and lead structures for the development of modified derivatives with enhanced activity and /or reduced toxicity.

Forests are the main sources of raw drugs. The demand for drug plants is increasing day by day leading to overexploitation of valuable plants resulting in depletion of many species in the wild. Realizing that the need of the hour is the conservation and promotion of medicinal plants, cultivation based on supply demand position ETM has initiated cultivation of valuable medicinal plant species in the land in its possession. ‘The right plant in the right place’ is the criterion of selection of plants. Our collections include those plants found in the ICUN check list and those figured in the red data book.

SNA Ayurveda Nursing Home

SNA commenced its journey way back in 1920. It was established by the great Ayurveda Physician Ashtavaidyan Thrissur Thaikat Unni Mooss.

Ashtavaidyans are believed to be the traditional Ayurvedic physicians of Kerala and are from Namboothiri community. They are masters of the eight branches of medicine from which the word Ashtavaidyan is originated. They wrote several books incorporating their observations and clinical experiences. “Chikitsa Manjari”, “Yogamithram”, “Abhidhana Manjari”, “Alathur Manipravalam”, “Sindoora Manjari” and “Kairaly Commentary on Ashtanga Hridayam” are some of them.

Pazhanellippurathu Thaikat Mooss family is one of the most famous Ashtavaidya families and said to be the Royal physicians of King Zamoorin of Ancient Malabar, Kerala. They have migrated to the Ancient Cochin Province for expansion of service to Humanity, and well supported by the King of Cochin named Sakthan Thampuran. Then they named after the place as Thrissur Thaikat Mooss and the physicians of the family reached their exalted name by healing.

Ashtavaidyan Thrissur Thaikat Unni Mooss made his own platform at younger age itself and as a man of vision founded the stone for the SNA at 1920. In the beginning, it was a small manufacturing unit producing classical ayurvedic formulations that catered the needs of the family physician. But, later extended its services to other Ashtavaidyas also. Subsequently it widened its area of operation to other parts of the state.

At present SNA have a well equipped Ayurvedic medicine manufacturing unit, Ayurvedic hospital, Research division, Ayurveda Academy, Publication division and Export division. With a well balanced bunch of experienced and young team leaders and workers in every department, SNA is catering to the needs of the society with quality medicines and services.

The present Chairman & Managing Director Ashtavaidyan P.T.N Vasudevan Mooss, SNA is marching forward with a mission of achieving “LOKA SAMASTHA SUKHINO BHAVANTHU” means let everybody feel good.
