     Thekkady is the location of the Periyar National Park, which is one of the finest wildlife reserves in Kerala state of India. This is the only tiger reserve where one can watch animals at close quarters from a boat. This sanctuary is spread over an area of 777 Sq. Kms, surrounded by an artificial lake over an area of 25 Sq. Kms. The normal sightings are elephant, bison, sambar deer, barking deer, wild boar, birds of various kinds.
