Wayanad is a district in the north-east of Kerala state, India with headquarters at the municipality of Kalpetta. It is set high on the Western Ghats with altitudes ranging from 700 to 2100. The district was formed on 1 November 1980 as the 12th district in Kerala by carving out areas from Kozhikode and Kannur districts. About 885.92.sq.km of area of the district is under forest. Wayanad has three municipal towns Kalpetta, Mananthavady and Sulthan Bathery. There are many indigenous tribal in this area.
Arrive in Cochin / Kozhikkod airport / Railway station and transfer to wayanad district. Check in to hotel in kalpatta. Night stay at hotel.
After breakfast departure for KURAVA DWEEP – a 995 acres island which is rich for its flora and fauna. Carry packed lunch from the hotel. Explore the island till lunch time. Have packed lunch & relax for one hour. Leave for Tholpetty wildlife sanctuary. Jeep safari in the sanctuary. Return to the hotel for dinner.
After breakfast departure for CHEMBRA PEAK – At 2100m above sea level, Chembra is the highest peak in Wayanad and is an ideal area for trekking. have your packed lunch Relax for some time and visit POOKOT LAKE, Pookot lake is a natural fresh water lake surrounded with evergreen rain forest. Boating facilities are also available here. then return to hotel.
After breakfast departure for EDAKKAL CAVES – the Edakkal caves are pre-historic caves. It is soft trekking. Two caves are located at a height of1000m on Ambukutty Mala near Ambalavayal, SOOCHIPPARA WATER FALLS – Soochipara waterfalls are really treasures of nature. Alight from your drive & take a one km. walk into the dense equatorial forest of Wayanad. You will discover nature at its thundering best. Soochipara is 3 tiered powerful waterfalls. The cliff face here is ideal for rock-climbing, but for true professionals only. And then go to AMBALAVAYAL ARCHEOLOGICAL MUSEUM. Return to stay at hotel.
After breakfast return to Cochin / Kozhikkod Air port / Railway station.
